With the arrival of the summer swimming season, Governor Schwarzenegger proclaimed June 2010 “Drowning Prevention Month,” and urged all Californians to follow safety tips to prevent drowning and near drowning incidents that can result in lifelong disability.Read the 2010 Proclamation
Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has declared the month of May 2009, as
"Drowning Prevention Month."
In California, drowning is a leading cause of
injury-related deaths among children under the age of five and near-drowning
accidents each year result in life-long disabilities.

The Department of Developmental Services (DDS) and the Drowning
Prevention Foundation continue to raise awareness on this issue, and remind
